8 Easy Tips to Protect your Business
 |
Your business doesn't have to present opportunities to thieves, in fact it can do the opposite. Here are some ideas to make your business less attractive to burglars.
- Outdoor Lighting - Illuminate your business entry points (doors & windows) and make sure the lights shine on the business and not in the eyes of observers.
- Burglar Alarms - For thieves, these alarms are a hassle and a great deterrent.
- Landscaping - Eliminate a burglars hiding place. Prune shrubbery away from doors &
windows to a height of no more than two feet.
- Doors - A strong lock installed on a weak door isn't a deterrent. Outside doors should
be metal or solid hardwood at least 1 3/4 inches thick.
- Locks - Deadbolts with heavy strike plates which are secured with 3 screws.
- Windows - Drill through the sashes of double-hung windows and insert removable
pins. With sliding widows, consider inserting a dowel in the track.
- Marked Valuables - Make your property hard to sell by engraving an identifying mark,
such as your drivers license, on your valuables.
- Community Watch - Organize your neighbors to look after each other's businesses. Place a decal on the window and door emphasizing that the Community Watch is looking after your business.
